This is mostly not true. The spine is a moving functional structure. The classic subluxation is really not so much  “bone out of place” as it is “bone stuck in place”. Spinal and pelvic segments that give us pain are usually fixated and require specific mobilizing to restore normal function. A second aspect of  spinal fixations is the muscle component. Fixations are often accompanied by “muscle spasm”. This is a normal reaction by the body to compensate. Treating muscle spasm as such, is not a very effective approach if the underlying structural problem is not eliminated. A second and more subtle understanding is that spastic muscles often are the result of weakened antagonistic muscle groups. Therefore treating and strengthening the weak muscle is often more effective in reducing muscle spasm.
